Description

Zigzag Oversize veneer

Created for making very wide and long snow, surf, ski and powder boards.

The price indicated includes enough veneer to make 7 extra long and extra wide sheets.

You can build a board that is almost:

175 cm long and up to 40 cm wide.

The zigzag edges fit together like a puzzle. The seam will be just as strong, if not stronger than the rest of the wood area of a sheet.

This veneering technique is in response to requests for over-size veneer.

How to use this product:

  • Fit the long and short sheets together at the zigzag edges and tape them together using the included veneer tape.

FAQs:

What if my zigzag edges don’t fit together?
Take the narrower of the 2 pieces and lightly spray water on both sides of the zigzag. That will expand it to match the wider one.

What if one of my zigzags cracks along the length?
Go ahead and use it as if there was no crack. The water-based glue will swell the wood and close the crack when it is laminated together.

What is the different between the Face, Core and Cross Band sheets?
Face sheets are sorted as the clearest layers for the top and bottom of your board. Core sheets are the internal layers, and will have imperfections such as small knots and holes, splits, sap lines and other color variations. Cross grain sheets (also referred to as xbands, or cross bands) have the grain running in the 90˚ direction to the other long grain layers.

Maintenance:

Veneer expands and contracts with moisture. Keep your veneer stored away from all heat sources and lay it flat.

Keep all veneer sheets together so that when they acclimatize to the environment, all layers expand or contract the same. (ie – don’t store different sheets in different rooms and expect the zigzags to mesh together). If your work area is very dry, keep your unused veneer sealed in plastic (a garbage will do) until you are ready to use it.

Until it is laminated together, veneer sheets are prone to splits, especially the cross grain sheets. Handle them with care, but if any sheets do split, they can be repaired with a bead of glue and masking tape.
