Me présenter en quelques mots ? Je m’appelle Olivier, j’ai 26 ans, et je suis originaire de Rouen (Montmain plus exactement, mais c’est tellement petit que personne ne connait) ! Actuellement, je travaille sur Paris dans le domaine du digital, en tant qu’UX Designer. C’est en parallèle de mes études et de mon travail que j’ai construit mon projet artistique autour du dessin et des boards.
Je consacre également beaucoup de mon temps à mon autre passion qui est le sport, et plus particulièrement les sports de glisses (snowboard, bodyboard, longboard et roller). Je lis également beaucoup de comics.
J’ai réalisé ma première board en 2015 ! J’étais encore à la fac à ce moment-là. C’était ma vieille board d’enfance qui trainait chez mes parents. Ma mère voulait s’en débarrasser car elle ne servait plus, et j’ai eu l’idée de la poncer et la customiser. J’ai toujours aimé dessiner et c’était l’occasion pour moi de changer de support ! J’ai la chance d’avoir un père bricoleur et une mère créative. La customisation de boards est un joli mixe des deux. J’ai ainsi pu avoir de bons conseils dès le début, et j’ai également beaucoup appris sur le tas. J’estime ne pas être trop maladroit avec mes mains, ça va ! Avec le temps, je suis devenu de plus en plus habile de mes mains.
Je dessine vraiment depuis tout petit ! J’ai dû commencer quand j’étais au CP et je suis vraiment passé par tous les styles : cartoons, graph, réaliste, etc… Je me suis d’ailleurs lassé du dessin sur papier à un moment donné, et le custom m’a permis d’appréhender de nouveaux horizons. Je me suis ainsi dirigé vers le style comics que j’ai toujours aimé et admiré dans les bandes dessinées.
Pour résumer le processus, la première étape va être de remettre en état la board. Je pars de planche qui sont la plupart du temps très usées. Il y a donc un gros travail pour décaper et poncer la surface. L’objectif est d’arriver à obtenir une surface la plus propre possible, ce qui n’est d’ailleurs pas possible pour des boards trop abimées. Je vais ensuite réfléchir au motif que je vais dessiner dessus, et préparer l’ébauche au crayon (les trais principaux, afin d’avoir des repères). Je passe ensuite à la couleur, avec de l’acrylique pour les aplats quand il y en a, et au posca pour personnages/motifs. Une fois satisfait du rendu, je fixe le tout avec du vernis, en pot ou en spray en fonction du rendu attendu. J’aime tenter de nouvelles choses et pouvoir essayer de nouveaux produits.
Ce qui est vraiment important pour moi, c’est la netteté des couleurs et la précision des détails. C’est un peu ce qui caractérise mon style, avec des contours très marqués. Cela prend beaucoup de temps mais le résultat en vaut la peine !
Si je dois en citer un, ça serait Nova, un héro issu de l’univers Marvel. Ce n’est pas le plus connu des supers héros mais son histoire est vraiment cool ! Sans parler des dessins dans les ouvrages qui sont magnifiques. Je recommande !
Mon nom d’artiste est Zetoon, alias Zit. Il vient du surnom que m’a toujours donné mon père qui a grandi au Maroc, « Zitoune ». En arabe, c’est la traduction d’Olive, le surnom que tous mes amis me donnent. Zetoon est donc un mélange de « the toon », prononcer « zi toon », comprendre « un personnage de cartoon » en anglais et de « Zitoune ». Zit est simplement une abréviation que certains de mes proches aiment utiliser.
Par hasard à vrai dire. Je suis abonné à pas mal de pages orientées skate sur facebook, et l’une d’entre elle faisait une référence à Roarockit. J’ai jeté un œil à tout ça et j’ai adoré. Je me suis ensuite dit que ça serait sympa de partager mon travail et ma passion avec la communauté Roarockit.
Je bosse sur pas mal de projets en même temps, et j’ai de quoi m’occuper pour minimum les cinq prochaines années ! Je travaille en ce moment sur une série de plusieurs boards, qui sont d’ailleurs bientôt finies. La conception de mon site internet, que je développe avec un ami, est aussi une grosse étape pour la suite de mes projets. En parallèle, j’ai des expositions en cours et à venir, notamment sur Paris et Amsterdam, donc pas mal de choses à préparer.
Mes principaux objectifs pour le moment sont de continuer à peaufiner mon style et ma technique, et de continuer à produire des planches qui me plaisent et qui me ressemblent. Mon but est de réaliser une collection de board à mon image. Je veux aussi continuer à être présent et échanger lors d’expositions et d’événements artistiques à l’international. Je prends des commandes sur mesure et certaines de mes planches sont à vendre mais ce n’est pas le cœur de mon activité.
Ma principale vitrine est Instagram, comme beaucoup d’artistes ! Le nom de mon compte est @Ze.toon, n’hésitez pas à y faire un tour et à vous abonner si cela vous plait ! Comme je l’ai dit un peu plus tôt, mon site internet va arriver, sur lequel on pourra voir mes réalisations, mais pas que. Il y aura beaucoup de contenu que sur ma page Instagram actuelle : il y aura des articles de blogs, des conseils, un shop en ligne et des fan zones.
J’expose assez régulièrement sur Paris, et mes boards sont actuellement au Bauby bar, bar pop culture à côté de Bastille. L’exposition dure deux mois, donc n’hésitez pas à y faire un tour ! Pour voir mes boards, mais pas que : le bar est vraiment super, la déco est juste extra et l’équipe est au top !

L’événement European Custom Show est un concept unique en son genre qui est né en 2017. Fondé initialement par le collectif Chalk Custom Board Project et désormais co-organisé avec Roarockit Skateboard Europe , cette exposition collective a pour objectif de rassembler les artistes “custom board” les plus talentueux en Europe : par “custom board”, nous entendons des skateboards, longboards, surfs, snowboards et bien plus encore.
Mathieu Bonte (a.k.a Mata7ik), co-fondateur de l’événement European Custom Show : « On s’est aperçus que la plupart des artistes custom board développaient leur art de manière individuelle et il nous a paru évident de les rassembler sous une forme collective, pour mettre en lumière leur œuvres, leurs techniques, leurs styles artistiques. Voici comment l’European Custom Show est né ».

Sarah Jackson, de Roarockit Skateboard Europe : « notre exposition collective n’est pas influencée par une grosse organisation officielle, ni une grande marque multinationale, mais plutôt par des gens passionnés, qu’ils soient shapers, artistes ou activistes. Notre organisation est fondée sur les valeurs de respect, de partage et aussi l’envie de repousser sans cesse les limites du ‘Board Art’, à tous niveaux. Le concept derrière cet événement est de l’organiser chaque année dans un lieu en Europe, dans les villes principales et parfois dans des lieux insolites ! »
La seconde édition du European Custom Show se déroule cette année à Bordeaux, à l’espace Darwin, un des lieux cultes de la culture urbaine, expérimentale et artistique au sens ultra-large du terme. Plus de 50 artistes ont été sélectionnés pour cette occasion et pas moins de 150 custom boards seront exposées.
Cette année, nous allons, de plus, créer (shaper) une oeuvre d’art à partir de skateboards et longboards courbés. Cette œuvre d’art sera ensuite mise aux enchères au profit de l’association Skateistan, une organisation non gouvernementale pour qui nous avons souhaité montrer notre implication. L’association Skateistan permet aux enfants et jeunes de se développer grâce au skateboard et à l’éducation. Selon les mots de ses fondateurs, il s’agit de : « créer un meilleur futur pour ces jeunes et leurs communautés, grâce à des programmes innovants qui visent à développer les expériences et compétences de chacun d’entre eux ».
L’événement European Custom Show fera partie du concept « Skate Life » à l’espace Darwin qui inclura entre autres : performances live, contest de skate, concerts, workshops/ateliers DIY, etc.

The second edition of the European Custom Show is happening this year in Bordeaux, at Darwin, one of the most popular places to hold such an innovative art show. More than 50 custom board artists (and 150 custom boards) will attend the exhibit.
This year, we will also create an astonishing piece of art, handmade entirely out of custom boards. This project will be auctioned and all benefits will be sent to Skateistan, a non-profit organisation that we care about dearly. Skateistan empowers children and youth through skateboarding and education. Skateistan quotes, «Through our innovative programs children build the skills and confidence, to create a brighter future for themselves and their communities.»
The European Custom Show will be part of the «Skate Life» monthly event at Darwin, that will also include : live performances, skate contests, live concerts, DIY workshops, etc.

It’s that time of year again !
Along with many Freerides organised all over the world, the IDF Championships (International Downhill Federation) have also taken off !
Starting with two races in the Philippines, where we will be able to follow the progress of Team Rider Julien Fouchard and new this year riding another Roarockit Luge is Olivier Gerling.
With Julien coming in 5th of Europe and 17th in the overall world ranking IDF Championships last season 2018 and 10th of Europe and 27th world ranking for Olivier Gerling, they are bombing the hills all over the world this year.

Comme chaque année, chez Roarockit Skateboard Europe, nous tenons à soutenir comme nous pouvons, les actions du monde de la glisse et cela passe par les événements à deux pas de chez vous. Et même si nous ne sommes pas représentés, tous ces événements nous tiennent à cœur, nous souhaitons donc participer à la diffusion de ceux-ci.
L’impact de ces rassemblements sont nombreux et aide au développement du monde de la glisse en France. De la sortie familial le dimanche pour regarder des skaters pendant un contest, les longboardeurs, des novices qui viennent pour apprendre et rencontrer leurs idoles régionales aux plus expérimentés qui s’inscriront pour l’édition de l’année prochaine. Tout public est le bienvenu dans ces rassemblements plein de bonne humeur !

ALT – Association de Longboarders Toulousains
Depuis 2017, Association de Longboard Toulousains prend d’assaut Le Mourtis pour un événement de descente incomparable ! Avec ces 2.5km, 14 virages dont 12 épingles, 10% de moyenne et sa large route, le tracé ravira les addicts de vitesse comme les adeptes du freeride.

Ça glisse, ça roule pour Eighty Five ! Nous avons le plaisir de vous présenter ce mois-ci Laurent, shaper Vendéen et créateur de Eighty Five. Voici son interview :
- Commençons par une présentation de notre “Shaper of the month”. D’où viens-tu ? Quel âge as-tu ? Que fais-tu dans la vie ? Tes passions ? N’hésite pas à donner les informations que tu souhaites pour te présenter.
Laurent, un jeune homme de 54 ans. Fabrication de mon premier skate à 14 ans. Avoir un papa menuisier avec un atelier très équipé aide beaucoup ! Menuisier moi-même, je suis revenu à mes premiers amours après avoir évolué dans le monde du nautisme. Je fabrique également des surfs, toujours en bois…
- Depuis combien de temps as-tu commencé le travail du bois ? Connais-tu ce savoir-faire depuis longtemps ?
De formation menuisier, je suis d’ailleurs la cinquième génération. J’ai toujours évolué dans le milieu du bois, bâtiment, nautisme. J’apprécie particulièrement la création.
Très valorisant de partir d’une feuille blanche et d’admirer le résultat final !
- Quel est ta relation avec le bois Canadian ? Pourquoi est-il si spécial pour toi ?
L’érable du Canada est l’essence reine pour shaper un skate. Parfaite adéquation entre la densité, la couleur et la facilité d’usinage.
- Comment as-tu choisi le nom “Nom de la marque” ? A-t-il une signification particulière ? une histoire ?
Eighty-Five, quatre-vingt cinq, m’est naturellement venu. C’est mon département, la Vendée. Je suis très attaché à mes racines paysannes. Ça permet de garder les pieds sur terre. Département très bien équipé en skate park, et bien sur nous avons la mer !
- Utilises-tu les technologies Roarockit ? Te sont-elles utiles au quotidien ?
J’utilise les produits et plus particulièrement les poches sous vides Roarockit pour la réalisation de board en petites séries. Ils connaissent très bien les produits, sont des spécialistes, et proposent l’ensemble des produits périphériques. Colle, outillages, etc et bien sur une sélection rigoureuse du bois !
- Comment as-tu découvert Roarockit ?
Sur internet tout simplement !
- Sur quoi travailles-tu en ce moment ? Quels sont tes futurs projets ?
Je travaille actuellement avec les jeunes de Riders Gang ! Ils sont comme mois des Sables d’Olonne. Je me spécialise dans les petites séries, pub, lots pour compétitions et bien évidement le particulier qui souhaite une board custom !

Today we are taking a moment to introduce Julien Fouchard: Roarockit Skateboard Europe’s Luge Team Rider.
This introduction is very overdue, as Julien Fouchard has now been riding for the Roarockit Team since 2016.
An enthusiast of the Street Luge and Classic Luge, Julien has been riding since 2012 and started riding competitively in 2013.

Couldn’t compete due to car problems
We met Julien back in 2014 during events such as Peyragudes Never Dies, Le Rigalet, La D35 (…etc.). So many great events out there!
Julien was looking for a Luge that would meet his needs and enable him to take part in Championships and events across the world.
Roarockit technology makes it possible to build all types of custom boards, but a Street Luge entirely made of veneer and vinyl glue with oversize dimensions and shapes had not yet been done. We were up for the challenge and launched ourselves into the making of a unique Street Luge!
After several months, the first luge was ready. Made entirely using the Roarockit Thin Air Press, Canadian maple veneer and Titebond III glue. Julien participated in several freerides to test it, see if improvements were needed and to get a maximum amount of feedback on the board from other riders. Returns were positive but some improvements could be made: a little wider and shorter.
The second prototype was then a success! A Street Luge entirely handmade with Roarockit technology, a one-of-a-kind Luge.
The making of this first Street Luge entirely out of veneer is a great pride. A successful collaboration between rider Julien Fouchard, who brought his knowledge of the discipline and Roarockit for the technicalities of the build. The graphics were done by rider and artist Thomas, aka LeGrinch, Lako – Art & Co
This coming season of 2018 Julien will be taking part in several Freerides: the Rigalet, Montaut Express, Saint Pathik…etc.
And also the IDF championships: Transylvania, Kozakov, Verdiccilio.
We are thoroughly looking forward to following his accomplishments this season and are stoked of having such an awesome Roarockit Ambassador and Team Rider!

DIY Skateboard Building Kits

It is a pleasure to present to you the work of Aad Terlouw from the Netherlands and his beautiful build of a carbon-epoxy fin keel for a controlled model sailing yacht, using the Roarockit Thin Air Press Technology! Thank you Aad for taking the time to share your experience with us!
Radio controlled model sailing yacht
The wide range of applications of the Roarockit is shown with the construction of a fin keel by Aad Terlouw in the Netherlands for his radio controlled model sailing yacht.The fin with a length of 65 cm had to be light, stiff and strong and with a narrow airfoil cross section of about 6.5 mm wide.To achieve that goal he decided to go for an carbon-epoxy fin with a balsa wood core and to apply vacuum bag technology.
In spite of the availability of numerous industrial vacuum bag systems the favourable reviews of the Roarockit on the internet convinced him to purchase the Roarockit with a bag of 135*40cm.
The balsa wood core consists of 2 balsa planks of 3 mm thickness, each of them were given an one-sided airfoil-like cross section by accurate planing and sanding (photo below).After this shaping stage the two halves were glued together with epoxy in the Roarockit vacuum bag.
After consulting vacuum bagging expertise on the internet for similar projects Aad had concluded to replace the delivered breather net by a release film with closely spaced ventilation openings directly placed on the balsa fin core.On top of this film a bleeder cloth is needed to absorb excess epoxy.It is essential to keep the valve on the bag offset from your work as recommended in the user guide of the kit.
After drying the complete core was sanded down to about 4.5 mm thickness and in top and bottom inserts of small pieces of hard wood were glued for fitting the bolts for connection of the fin with the hull and the ballast lead later on.
Aad had decided to place three layers of unidirectional (UD) carbon cloth on both sides of the core.
In dry condition the combined thickness of these 3 layers carbon was 1 mm and in order to determine the final thickness of the carbon-epoxy composite he made a small testpiece using the Roarockit. This also enabled him to familiarize himself with the Roarockit for such projects.
The final thickness of the vacuum bagged and cured carbon-epoxy testpiece had remained unchanged and appeared to be still 1 mm.This confirmed that a core thickness of 4.5 mm was needed for obtaining a final thickness of 6.5 mm.
In order to obtain a stiff and strong fin Aad has applied carbon cloth of a high modulus of 240 GPA (steel abt 210 GPA) laid in three layers of different widths saturated with epoxy on both sides of the balsa core.The whole was covered again with release film and bleeder cloth and kept one night in the vacuum bag of the Roarockit with the valve kept offset from his workpiece.It was noted that the vacuum was maintained overnight quite well.
After drying the rough fin was further sanded and painted etc to the result as shown on the photograph above and the first trials with the fin in his modelyacht were completed successfully.The final weight of the fin was 185 gram.

If you are in Denmark enjoy Skate Art and want take part in a very neat project, you’ll want to check out Mzungu!
We have recently been in contact with a Danish Skateboard Builder, Casper Haugegaard. Casper is hosting a fundraiser art-show in Copenhagen from the 1st to the 12th of March 2017, at Galleri Bomhuset. The exhibited boards are made with Roarockit technology and decorated by Danish artists.
“Mzungu” is a support exhibition for skate-aid Kenya. Skate-aid is an NGO which offers free skateboard lessons for children from slum Kangemi on the outskirts of Nairobi. Since there is no opportunity to buy skateboards in the area, the idea is to create a small production of handmade boards, in cooperation with the local skaters. For this, Bomhuset and a total of 12 artists, each decorated a skateboard for the exhibition. The works are sold at 2500kr. PCS. and the sale will go to skate-aid to establish a production of hand-made skateboards in Kangemi slum. The exhibition runs until 12th March. Opening hours: Thursday: 16:00 to 18:00 Friday: 16:00 to 18:00 Saturday: 12:00 to 15:00.

From 19.03.17-20.09.17, Casper will be volunteering as a skateboard-instructor with “skate-aid” at the orphanage “Shangilia”.
The Shangilia association is offering street children a home in an orphanage, providing them with an education and a decent life. The orphanage is on the edge of Nairobi, in the Kangemi slum. The aim is to carefully restore the children’s self-esteem with acrobatics, music and sports.
In Kangemi, Casper will be setting up a small production of handmade skateboards using Roarockit technology, in collaboration with the local skateboarders.

A little personnal introduction…
My name is Fabio Brambilla, I live in Como, Lake Como lovely place … I am 40 years old but did not hear them, for the moment.
My work is the furniture designer, I work in a large company, and I have a passion for … Skateboard passion for punk and electronic music, a background as an illustrator and designer tshirt, pins and stickers as well as paying video experimental … in short, a small local artist.

It ‘s always been my desire since I was a kid and I practiced Skateboard … to create a custom skate, and now I can do it!

For my work I have heard and seen the machines that bend the plywood with the technology of vacuum … and so in a restless night I searched the internet a similar method. and I found the “Canadian doctor” that explained and showed the ROAROCKIT TECHNOLOGY … et voilà
5) WHAT WOULD YOU SAY YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF DECK IS…
After a period of tests and tests with various forms I am now concentrating production
SURF SKATE models of style and old school. These are the models that we reflect to me
more and who marry better with my design and the veneer to broken pieces

In the future I see other projects not only for skateboards … I want to get hold of the technology
and implement small design objects … the limit will be my fantasy

Daniel contacted us a few weeks ago with pictures of his builds and what he was up to! We loved his decks and couldn’t resist putting forward his project that has gone from a winter hobby to a passion and small board building line. Give it up to this board builder in Austria!
1) So Daniel, can you tell us a little about yourself, where do you come from ? Where do you currently live ? What do you do ?
My name is Daniel Krismer, age 31, since I was born, I live in Kufstein, that’s a nice small town in Tirol/Austria. I’m married and proud daddy of 2 lovely kids. I love to ride motorcycles and play guitar. I was skating for fun since I was a little boy, trying new tricks with my friends at the park, now I enjoy more cruising around than doing tricks.
2) We understand you have recently started building skateboards, how did this come about ? Any particular reasons ?
I love to work in my workshop, no matter what to do, to fix something or rebuild an old motorcycle. Last autumn I kept an eye out for a new winter project. With my motorcycle students, I spend a lot of time on the parking lot to do some basic excercises. To get throw the exercises I use a skateboard, a 10 year old 7,5 Minilogo with independent trucks and monster wheels. After a thousand scratches and a realy bad griptape, I decided that it´s time for a new one. I surfed the internet and then ….from Skateshop – to google diy skateboard … and 5 hours later .. I had a new winter project.
3) You have launched a facebook page for « KriD Strassenbretter » (@skateboards4fun), can you tell us about it and how it is going so far ?
Last November I pressed the first decks, and the results were wow. I´d never thought that I could build a skateboard like that. It´s currently a great hobby, I can do it alongside my family, when my kids go to bed, I go to my workshop. A few month ago I decided to publicise my boards. Therefore facebook is the perfect platform. It’s not my goal to earn livelihood, but to create a customized skateboard is really cool, but I cannot use so many boards on my own, so I decided to sell them. The feedback is great and the feedback is motivation to go on.
4) You use the Roarockit Thin air press to build your decks, how did you come across us and how do you find it so far ?
A friend of mine builds skis and he presses also with a vacuum press. I searched online for vacuum bags and alternatives. After a few hours of reaserch I found your homepage. And the first order was done. I only use your thin air press. I like it to build my own molds and go to the timberdealer to look after the right veneer. Usually I use european maple and ash. Your vacuum bags are amazing. The material is hard-wearing and longlasting. It´s a really great idea to press without an expensive vacuum pump. Thank you for a great product like that.
5) Any future projects or plans with « KriD Strassenbretter » (@skateboards4fun) ?
My next project is to get a straight line throw my boards, find my style. I just start out on my sk8boardbuilder career, « lol ». In addition I have another new project : a powder-surfer . Hopefully I can show you the results in the near futur .
6) Little end note : any favorite saying, special deck or personnal note you would like to add?
It’s amazing, how quickly an idea becomes a passion. I hope that I can build many skateboards in the futur.

Ce mois-ci, vous avons le plaisir de vous présenter Melody Boards. Mélanie Blanchard est une passionnée de la fabrication de planches et de design.
1- Peux-tu nous faire une petite présentation de toi, d’où viens tu, quel âge as-tu, où habites tu ..etc ?
Je m’appelle Mélanie Blanchard, j’ai 25 ans et j’habite à CHINON. J’ai habité quelques temps sur Paris pour y exercer le métier de graphiste/illustratrice et après un an j’ai voulu retourner à ma campagne natale à Chinon.
2- Tu as lancé ta propre marque de planches fait main, quand as-tu commencé ce projet et pourquoi ?
L’idée de fabriquer des planches moi même m’est venu très rapidement après être rentrée en Touraine. Je n’avais qu’une petite planche que j’utilisais tout le temps sur Paris et j’en voulais une nouvelle, plus grande, plus personnalisée … sauf que je n’avais pas un rond! Je travaillais sur mon book d’illustration en même temps et tout cela est venu presque naturellement, j’avais besoin de nouveaux supports et c’est comme ça qu’est née ma première planche!
C’était un peu l’aventure, j’avais une brève idée de ce que je voulais et je me suis lancée. J’ai pris quelques planches de contreplaqué dans mon grenier que j’ai collé avec une bonne armada de serre joint! Cette première planche avait l’épaisseur d’un steak mais c’était la mienne avec mon dessin.
Je me suis très vite prise au jeu, ensuite j’ai découpé ma première planche de street qu’on avait du m’offrir au collège pour en faire un cruiser. On ne pouvait plus m’arrêter!
3- Quelles sont les spécificités de Melody Boards ?
La spécificité de Melody Boards c’est justement les illustrations. Il m’arrive très souvent que les personnes me donnent un petite idée de ce qu’ils veulent, je fais un croquis et c’est parti! Il m’est même arrivé de dessiner le chien d’un petit garçon par exemple, du coup on a organisé une petite séance photo et le petit est reparti avec sa planche avec son chien dessus. On peut pas faire plus personnalisé! J’adore dessiner et je trouve ça excellent de pouvoir faire cela sur un support aussi intéressant qu’un skateboard.
4- Pourquoi le nom Melody Boards ?
Je suis une grande fan de Serge Gainsbourg alors c’est mon petit clin d’œil perso envers cet artiste de talent. Et puis, je sais pas pourquoi mais les gens confondent souvent mon prénom avec Amélie et aussi Melody.
5- Tu utilises notre Thin Air Press et Érable Canadien, pourquoi et comment nous as-tu trouvé ?
J’utilise votre thin air press car c’est vachement pratique! Ça prend pas de place et on peut faire pleins de moules différents.
Le service client est génial, si j’ai une question on me répond super rapidement.
Je vous ai trouvé lors du Fise à Montpellier, j’avais déjà entendu parler de vous sur internet mais c’est toujours mieux de rencontrer les personnes directement, surtout lors d’un événement comme celui-ci!
6- As-tu une type de planche préférée et pourquoi ?
J’adore toujours autant un bon vieux longboard pour faire du cruising. Il n’y a rien de mieux qu’une bonne balade en bord de Loire/mer au soleil couchant!
7- Des futures projets, types de planches en vues ?
J’ai commencé à faire des objets en skateboard recyclé, des skateurs me donnent leurs vieilles planches cassées et je leur donne une seconde vie! Je trouve ça vraiment intéressant, c’est fou ce que l’on peut faire avec des skates (décapsuleurs, porte-clés, manche de couteaux…)
Et pour les planches j’ai commencé des longboards en bambou et bientôt il y aura pleins de nouveaux shapes donc une en drop deck que j’ai hâte de commencer!
8- Des remerciements, dédicaces ?
J’ai beaucoup de monde à remercier, tout ceux qui m’ont soutenu dès le début, qui ont toujours été là même pendant les coups dur. Ce soutient c’est hyper important, ça donne énormément de baume au cœur et toujours l’envie de continuer et de faire toujours plus.
Ma famille, qui se cotise à tout mes anniversaires pour m’acheter du nouveau matériel, mes amis qui m’aident à faire connaître mon travail. Mon père qui m’a transmis l’amour du bois. A toutes ces personnes je veux leur dire un grand merci.

Petite Intro:
Je m’appelle Marie, j’ai 23 ans et je vie à Lyon, j’ai réalisé une mise à niveau en arts appliquées à Bellecour école d’art et j’ai ensuite intégré la vie professionnelle afin de préparer financièrement mon projet.
1. Bonjour Marie, tu viens de lancer Wealow, en quoi consiste ce projet et pourquoi ?
Bonjour Sarah, alors Wealow est une entreprise artisanale qui propose des boards au design féminisé. J’essaye au mieux de tendre vers une démarche éco-responsable et de traiter avec des produits et partenaires français.
2. Quelles techniques utilises-tu pour la fabrication et la décoration de tes planches?
J’utilise la technique de la sérigraphie.
3. Qu’est ce qui t’as poussé à monter ce projet ?
D’abord l’illustration, mes études en art m’ont plongés dedans mais il me manquait un travail plus matérielle. Le travail du bois que m’offre la création de skate a donc été la solution a un travail qui me correspond vraiment.
4. Tu utilises du placage érable Canadien Roarockit, pourquoi ce choix et comment as tu connu Roarockit ?
J’ai connu Roarockit sur internet et j’ai choisi de travailler avec Roarockit car vous êtes basé en France et je tiens à travailler au maximum avec des produits et partenaires nationaux, de plus vous proposez plusieurs types de placages que ça soit pour streets, pour longboards ou même en bambou. Enfin l’équipe est top et je n’ai jamais été déçu.
5. C’est le tout début de Wealow, comment cela se passe t-il pour l’instant ?
Ca se passe plutôt bien, je prépare des cartes de visite et des flyers afin de mieux faire connaître la marque, et je commence quelques modèles uniques.

6. Quels sont vos projets du moment et à venir ?
Pour la suite je souhaite développer surtout des modèles uniques et un partenariat avec des artistes est en train de se mettre en place, ainsi que des expositions sur Lyon.

Bonjour Fred, est ce que tu pourrais te présenter un petit peu, d’où est-ce que tu viens, ce que tu faisais avant ? etc… ?

Fred Pugnat, 42 ans, Je suis de Paris, mais cela fait 18 ans que je vis à Valencia en Espagne.
J´ai repris le skate il y a deux ans, après une période d´arrêt de plus de 20 ans, le jour où mon fils m´a dit qu´il voulait un skate. Ce fut le déclic, une Street Axe de Eléphant Skateboards, une paire d´Indy, roues Bones, construction d´une mini dans le jardin et c´était reparti !! beaucoup de choses ont changé…les chutes sont plus douloureuses qu´avant ! J´ai suivi l´évolution du skate, car les meilleurs moments de ma vie je les aient passé sur une planche à roulettes (faut pas que ma femme lise ça !) (Rires)
Pourrais-tu nous dire pourquoi et comment tu es arrivé à travailler le bois et surtout les skateboards !
Le bois c´est mon métier ! Je suis menuisier depuis plus de 25 ans…BEP/CAP de charpente et formation complémentaire escaliéteur, j´ai tout fait ou pratiquement tout fait en bois, les skateboards c´était la seule chose qui me restait à faire.
Dis-nous, pourquoi as-tu choisi d’utiliser le placage de bois ROAROCKIT, comment nous as-tu trouvé ??
A vrai dire, au tout début j´ai galéré pour trouver du placage ici en Espagne…j´utilisais du placage de 1,2mm et j´étais obligé de faire 8 couches pour arriver au cm.
Un jour, par hasard j´ai taper “placage pour skateboards” en français sur Google et j´ai connu votre site. Voir que vous étiez en France m´a soulagé !
J´ai pris contact, Nico m´a appelé et il m´a expliquer le type de produit que vous vendiez … première commande, produit de qualité…c´était parfait !
Et puis ROAROCKIT n´est-il pas le distributeur numéro 1 du placage pour skateboard en Europe !! ??(Rires)
Peut-on savoir comment l’idée de Brandless est arrivée ? Raconte-nous un peu le début, comment tu as commencé ??
Je fais partie de la génération de skateurs qui choisissait ses boards pour son shape…lorsque que je me suis remis au skate, je cherchais des planches ayant une âme au niveau du shape…les Popsicle ça n´en a pas…et puis les rééditions à presque 100€, non merci.
C´est donc pour ça que je me suis décider à fabriquer mes propres planches.
J´ai réalisé un premier moule, sorti les feuilles de placage d´un plateau d´érable, calibrer les feuilles et mis tout ça sous presse.
Vu que le résultat était plus qu´acceptable, je me suis dit, pourquoi pas lancer ma propre marque, c´est comme ça que BRANDLESS SKATEBOARDS est née.
J´ai pensé que ça pouvait marcher, et j´ai donc investi dans des machines, fabriquer un petit atelier chez mes beaux-parents, bref, de quoi faire les planches de, A à Z moi-même, sans dépendre de qui que ce soit… Je ne fais pas ça sur la table de cuisine !! (Rires)
Lorsque l’on regarde tes boards on remarque une certaine ligne assez atypique ! Pourquoi ce choix ? peux-tu nous en dire plus sur le shape de tes boards et la philosophie de Brandless ?
Faire ce que tout le monde fait ne m´intéresse pas. De plus, je ne compte pas, ni ne veux pas rivaliser avec personne…je fais ce qu´il me plait, c´est tout ! (Grosse erreur…je sais)
Une chose est claire, je ne fais pas ça pour le fric… j´offre au skateurs l´occasion d´avoir des planches personnaliser à leur goût ou des shapes peu communs comme l´est la “Ducknose”…shape que j´ai créé moi-même et dont je suis très fier !!
Comment vois-tu le futur de Brandless jusqu’où compte tu aller ??
Le futur ! ? Obscur…très obscur(Rires)
Les débuts sont toujours difficiles, cela fait un an que je me suis lancer et je ne pensais pas que ça allait être aussi lent…j´ai fait cadeau de plus de planches que j´ai vendu !
Mais je garde l´espoir, mes boards sont top, les gars qui les ont ridés en sont très content…ça me motive pour continuer !
J´espère pouvoir m´agrandir et pourquoi pas vivre de ma passion. Ça risque d´être difficile, voire même impossible mais je garde l´espoir.

“Hi guys, I am 21 years old from Hexham/Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK”.

When did you first get into skateboarding?
“I have been skating for well over half my life and plan to skate for as long as my legs will carry me!”

When and why did you start building boards?
“Like every skateboarder, I have always wanted to create and sell my own skateboards. I just always pictured it as a great feeling to be riding something that I have created and to see others doing the same. What really kick started the making of the skateboards, was my course at university. I was doing my BA (hons) in Graphic design/creative enterprise and had to write a dissertation on how brands label and market themselves as eco friendly and from a sustainable source, as well as creating a final product. Instantly I thought of skateboarding, as there is so much you can do to make a skateboard as eco friendly as possible. From there the dream became reality and I have been creating my ethically motivated skateboard company ever since.”

Where did the name « Big Aye Skateboard » come from?
“Like I said earlier, I am from Newcastle upon tyne, and the term ‘Aye’ and ‘Whey aye’ are commonly used words in the Geordie vocabulary, so I wanted to include that into my name, so it subtly linked back to where I am from. The ‘Big’ bit just seemed to work pretty well with ‘Aye’, so I just added that to the start and ‘Big Aye Skateboards’ was created.”

You make your boards with Canadian maple from Roarockit, how did you hear about us and why Canadian maple?
“Well I did my research to try and find places where I could source veneer to create my skateboards and Roarockit seemed like a really good place to make my first purchase from, as well you guys were very helpful when I was having problems finding out information about creating skateboards. The reason for choosing Canadian Maple, is because it is the chosen wood to create skateboards all around the world and it has been SFI certified meaning that it is from a sustainable source, which is very important. Especially with my brand ethos of being as ethically motivated as possible.”

You have just started up Big Aye Skateboard Skateboards, how are things going so far?
“It is going pretty well, I am constantly in my workshop creating skateboards and trying out different shapes and sizes. I have got a lot of support from a lot of my friends and people I do not know, which is a great feeling as it shows that people really like what I am doing and I hope that this continues for a long time. I still have a long way to go, before I am fully established, but thats all part of the fun. An official website will be made in the near future, as well as a skate promo video and more… Just keep an ‘Aye’ out and you shall see the progress being made.”

What are you working on now and what are your future projects?
“I am currently working on multiple different things, my main project is a custom shaped deck for one of my good mates, based on an ‘Enjoi’ deck that I really like. Each board I make is handcrafted and finished, making each board different in their own little way, making them very individual as no board will be exactly that same. So as well as that, I am constantly working on my woodworking skills. For the future, more skateboards and even more shapes and sizes to suit every skateboarder and the non skateboarders wants and needs! I am hoping to create surfboards at some point, as well as clothing made from hemp.”

Several months ago, Roarockit received an order from Wood’n’Stuff. Ever since, we have been in admiration of his work, following his technics and the evolution of his projects.
Now, months down the road, we are particularly proud to be able to share the story behind Wood’n’Stuff and what it has become today.
So, can you tell us a little bit about yourself, where do you come from, what you did before etc…?
Sure — I’m Peter, a thirty something occasional woodworker from the town of Budapest, Hungary and a proud father of two. I manage a software product by day and I have a second life working with wood by night. I guess it’s needless to draw your attention to the classic “concealed superhero” setting here 😛
When did you first get into woodworking ?
It started out with a hinge that I wanted to mortise into an IKEA storage bench. I carefully researched the subject — that’s two YouTube videos — then headed out to the home improvement store and returned with a chisel and a mallet. Four gruelling hours later I swiped away the sweat on my forehead and proudly adored two rather ugly-looking recesses for the hinges. With the 10 points immediately deposited on my Manliness Account, I decided this experience was for me and that’s where it all started (only later I learned that chisels are sold dull and need to be sharpened before first use).
This was two years ago. Ever since then I stick with hand tools — chisels, hand saws and hand planes, that kind of stuff. They are slow and take a good deal of skill that I’m still very much in progress of acquiring, but they offer a kind of intimacy with wood I doubt I could get from power tools. It’s an incredibly intensive thing. And I get to keep my fingers.
When, why and how did you find the Roarockit technology ?
Frankly, I don’t recall where exactly I ran into it, but I do remember it was some Internet forum where the commenters said the inventor’s idea can’t possibly work. This was kind of odd for a product that has already been proven and sold by then, so the name “Roarockit” stuck in my mind.
A year later, when my project ideas called for something more flexible than traditional clamping I decided to give the TAP kit a try. In a way, this was because someone, somewhere once said that this was going to be a poor decision 🙂 You gotta love the irony.
In particular, I looked into vacuum pressing because my bentwood bracelets are made of several layers of veneers laminated onto circular molds and vacuuming saves me tons of work by not having to make a mold negative to press veneers onto the mold.
I have to admit I had doubts about whether TAP will work for the tighter curves I need compared to a skateboard, but once the test project passed with flying colors — no gaps between layers or impressions from the breathing net — I put it into use immediately. My setup is pretty similar to the skateboard building one, except that I use thinner veneers (1/32” instead of 1/16”) and another PVA glue instead of Titebond III. I’m yet to test it with some of the more rigid veneers like goncalo alves, but I’m confident it will work just as
flawlessly as with the softer hardwoods.
What is the spirit of wood’n’stuff? Why did you create it ?
How could I not? It combines my two things I feel passionate about: woodworking and creating products 🙂 It’s so much fun to build something from the ground up, starting with nothing but blank canvas.
The spirit is definitely geometric as opposed to ornamental. Ok, it positively helps that I suck at drawing, but being a “sans serif” kind of guy, the things that get me going are lines, angles, ratios, curves borrowed from perfect circles. Frankly, I could admire a perfectly polished slab of steel for hours 🙂 Geometry is also such an alien concept to an utterly organic material like wood that it acts as a frame and highlights the natural grain of wood. A hard edge on a block of wood forces your mind to traverse the grain, to reveal the structure, to fully comprehend the uniqueness of wood as a material.
What do you expect from wood’n’stuff? How far do you want to go ? 
Wherever the road takes us! At this point, I’m thinking about growing a well-groomed beard and buying a flannel shirt to get fully immersed in the subculture 🙂
I try to keep this project fun and not to take it too seriously — hence the name “wood’n’stuff” — which is surprisingly hard given the tremendous passion that goes into it. Of course, in my dreams it grows into an awesome full-time woodworking enterprise, with a rustic barn converted into a heated shop and huge slabs of walnut neatly stacked up next to my collection of $400 Lie-Nielsen bench planes, but let’s just say the seed has just sprouted and there’s a long way ahead and milestones to conquered. Like reaching breakeven. Ahem 🙂
Are there any new projects for wood’n’stuff?
Oh, more than I have time for. I definitely want to further explore veneer lamination bracelets and I can freely experiment with any convex shape now, thanks to my TAP kit which I hereby endorse 🙂 I have some exciting ideas that will be put to the test in the coming weeks.
I’m also very interested bringing cast concrete and wood together. Walnut with its earthy brown, in particular, looks stunning next to grey industrial concrete, so that should be another way to bring out the beauty of wood.
